Home to the Alamo and other famous landmarks, San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas and among the top ten largest in the United States. The city was originally a Spanish and Mexican settlement, though it ultimately became an American territory after the Mexican-American War. Remnants of its’ past occupation are one of the main tourist attractions to the city as it is home to many centuries-old mission buildings. Locals and visitors alike also frequent the picturesque River Walk, which is filled with countless shops and restaurants. Tex-Mex purists often contend that San Antonio was the originator of Tex-Mex cuisine, and it has many famous restaurants that serve the food to prove it. Some noteworthy establishments include Taco Haven and Jacala. The city is also a major center for education in Texas – over 100,000 students attend a wide array of institutions including several state schools. The Spurs, one of professional basketballs most successful franchises, call San Antonio home. Average sales prices of homes in San Antonio are concurrent with state averages, and furthermore, they have not seen dramatic fluctuations as of late. Rental homes in San Antonio are of great importance to the large student and tourist community that flock to the city each year.
